Janis R. Smith-Vollmer passed away peacefully on February 10, 2021, at Elderwood of Lockport. Born in Hamburg, NY on December 24, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Barlett S. and Cordelia Bennet Ramsdell. Janis graduated from Geneseo State Teachers College in 1946 and came to Lockport to work as an elementary school teacher with the Lockport City Schools. She taught second grade at Emmet Belknap School. She was a long time member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, a member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization, (PEO), Family Seminar Mothers Club, Junior Service League and The American Contract Bridge League. She was predeceased by her husbands, John H. Smith who passed away in 1988 and Gene D. Vollmer, who passed away in 2017. She also was co-owner of Cook Wholesale of Medina, where she worked with her first husband and son.
Janis is survived by her children, Jeffrey J. (Kathleen) Smith and Melissa S. (Robert) McGregor; grandmother of Jeffrey J. (Linda) Smith Jr. and Tyler R. (Chelsea) Smith; great grandmother of Jack M., Chase M. and Ryker R. Smith.
